On March 31st, 2024, StreamNative will introduce a streamlined and efficient approach for managing Pulsar clusters through a consolidated StreamNative Operator and Pulsar Image to reduce operational complexity by eliminating different variants. The updates include:

StreamNative Pulsar Operators: The existing Pulsar Operators (streamnative/pulsar-operator, streamnative/bookkeeper-operator, and streamnative/zookeeper-operator) will be consolidated into a single, comprehensive StreamNative Operator. Consequently, all future updates, enhancements, and patches will be exclusively released for the StreamNative Operator streamnative/sn-operator. There will be no new releases of the Pulsar Operators after version 0.17.10. Effective April 15th, the existing Pulsar operators will no longer be licensed under the StreamNative Community License, which has been terminated. Additionally, starting March 31st, 2024, the current Pulsar Operator Images will be removed from Docker Hub.

StreamNative Pulsar Images: To reduce confusion, eliminate redundancy, and simplify cluster management, we will consolidate our Pulsar images into two variants on March 31st, 2024: a) streamnative/sn-platform b) streamnative/sn-platform-slim

Please be aware that starting March 31st, 2024, our other image variants (streamnative/pulsar, streamnative/pulsar-all, and streamnative/sn-pulsar) will no longer be available on Docker Hub.

⁠What This Means for You

For Current StreamNative Customers: On March 31st, 2024, deploying Pulsar clusters with StreamNative Pulsar Operators and/or Images will require a license key. This new licensing system will serve as a unique identifier, aiding in the streamlining of our support, troubleshooting, and consulting services for current customers. The necessary upgrade steps have been detailed here⁠.

For Future StreamNative Customers: Starting March 31st, 2024, using StreamNative Pulsar Operators and/or Images will require a valid StreamNative subscription. If you are currently using StreamNative’s Pulsar Operators and/or Images without a commercial agreement or valid license key, we encourage you to contact our team⁠ to discuss your requirements. Should you prefer the open-source route, we suggest transitioning to the Pulsar helm charts⁠, a community-supported alternative, and utilizing open-source Pulsar images⁠ released and maintained by the Apache Pulsar community, adhering to its release policy⁠.
